February's Mood

The Mood for this month is Introspection.

Coming out of January, Which seems to have a running theme of being a trying month — I am feeling the need to take some time to disconnect and dig deeper. A friend of mine told me she was going to practice lent this year and I’ve made the decision to join her.

Reminiscent of the magic that took place during my Daniel Fast, back in November, I had been feeling the need to do another fast so this came at a perfect time. I had been feeling the need to reset and tap in with God on a deeper level. You see me and God have been having a strained relationship due to my disappointment in my current season. I am still in this waiting place of manifesting all that I have been praying for and being the stubborn child that I am, I have pulled away and haven’t been seeking Him like I know that I need to.

So practicing lent will be a great time to disconnect and reconnect. I have chosen and been lead to give up the following things as a way to reset and rely on God for his wisdom during this 46 day period.

  • Social Media - For now, it’s Just IG but It may be Twitter as well but I need to move away from things that steal my joy and or I have been made to believe are necessary for my success.

  • Sweets - I have a sweet tooth so I will be cutting back on my sugary favorites such as ice cream, cereal, and dark chocolate covered pretzels.

I want to do one more thing but I need to pray more on what that should be.

I find it very important and necessary that when I am planning to deprive myself of something that is habitual in my life, I need to replace it with something else that serves my highest good. So I came up with the following things to help me get through this fast:

  • Instead of checking Social media, I will read a chapter in my current book or journal about my future or my current thoughts.

  • To curb my sweet tooth, I will be drinking water, eating fruit or veggies to alleviate my cravings.

  • I will also be praying for strength and guidance to get through the fast.

I am excited to push myself to new heights during this time, although it will be hard I know it’s going to be worth it. Every time I make the decision to sacrifice something and diligently practice obedience I am rewarded for my efforts. Because God is goooood!

Have you tried fasting before? If so, was it worth it, and or would you do it again?
